If you or someone you know is disabled and may need help here is a list of resources I have collected.
- Your Areas Agency on Aging- This is a group based generally by county sometimes can be smaller/larger depending on the area you are in. If you google XXX agency on aging, you should be led to at least somewhere that if they aren't actually your service area should know who. While their name implies only those of us who are "aging" are able to access this resource, but they actually support the disabled community as a whole.
- Ask Jan If you are working JAN is a great resource. JAN stands for Job Accommodation Network, and their whole purpose is workplace accommodations.
- Atticus This is a resource for Workers comp and Disability Benefits. They ask you a bunch of questions and then match you with the lawyer they think is best, who will then reach out to see if they are a good match or not.
- Assistive Technology Program by State This list gives you the information for your states assistive technology Program. These programs are amazing resources, and Pennsylvania's actually has a whole library of 3D Printing Patterns? that you can use if you have access to a 3D Printer (many local libraries have them and have a way for patrons to use them).
- SSDI Information SSA This links directly to social securities page with information on SSDI including how to apply for SSDI. This is a great resource if you decide on trying on your own before getting a lawyer. You DO NOT have to have a lawyer to apply for SSDI benefits, and people have gotten approved without them. With that being said lawyers DO NOT get paid unless they win your case and then it is only 25% of your back pay, and is capped at a certain amount based on when you apply.
